Sussex in Spring

Crocus, lilac and white,

Daffodil, yellow delight.

Blackthorn in bloom abound,

Mallards pair, and noisily sound.

Daylight stretches ever longer

The sun's warmth, steadily stronger.

When crowds on Brighton's beach convene,

Trout grow restless in their stream.

Upon bright gravels they brood and lie,

Soon to be tempted by floating fly.

In a twinkling Sussex shall see spring,

Celebrate the promise the season may bring.
